Who is kabir?
Kabir Mohideen was born in California, but his family is originally from India. Hence, he grew up in a bilingual environment, speaking Hindi at home and English at school. Kabir also learned Spanish in school, but never became fluent in it, however, he does speak it very well. Kabir is currently a freshman at Emory majoring in Physics. Kabir provided me with great insight in the processes he went through to learn the different languages he speaks.
Kabir believes that learning languages at a young age is better than learning when older, but he emphasizes that the method of teaching is the most important aspect in the learning process. He believes that learning how to speak a language before learning how to read or write is key to becoming fluent in a language. To support this claim, Kabir talks about his experience learning Spanish (language he is not fluent in) in comparison to his experience learning English and Hindi (languages he is fluent in).
